Welp. Some of you likely saw this coming. Some of you missed the origin story of this blog's title, so you thought this is what it was supposed to be about all along. Others didn't know the title, at all. Perhaps some of you landed here in search of chicken content and stayed for what turned out to be anything else. Regardless, here you are for a bona fide chicken post!
We have been brooding over whether or not to get chickens for a few years, now, and thanks to several factors coming together, we finally hatched a real plan to do so! Some friends were done with their chicken coop, so they brought it to us, and we gave it a bit of a glow-up. Then, we were generously gifted some hatching eggs and were able to borrow an incubator for them. So, in a few weeks, we will likely have some fluffy babies to introduce! I don't know that any of us quite know what we are getting ourselves into, so we're winging it a bit, but there is certainly plenty of hype and excitement.

Would you believe starting eggs in an incubator wasn't even the most stereotypical homeschool thing we did this week? After "soft-starting" school a couple weeks ago (in and amongst a couple trips out of town), we got back to it in earnest this week. Our picture book for the week, The Story of Ferdinand, is set, in part, in a field of flowers. So, I made the most of our zinnia patch and newly-sourced seating arrangement in the garden and set the kids to painting flowers...with watercolors, of course. #iykyk 😏 This may be a one-and-only occurrence, but even so - it did feel pretty idyllic to watch them quietly create while I picked produce. The arguing and grumbling afterward, though? Not so much. 😉
